On a Statistical Theory of Critical Events in Microstructural Evolution

چکیده
One of the most challenging aspects of the microstructural evolution in polycrystalline materials is to understand the role of topological reconfigurations during coarsening. In this paper, we study these critical events in a one-dimensional grain-boundary system and a stochastic framework for modeling texture evolution. The model is based on a master equation derived from numerically determined statistical properties of the system.

Introduction to Schramm-Loewner evolution and its application to critical systems
In this short review we look at recent advances in Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) theory and its application to critical phenomena. The application of SLE goes beyond critical systems to other time dependent, scale invariant phenomena such as turbulence, sand-piles and watersheds. Through the use of SLE, the evolution of conformally invariant paths on the complex plane can be followed; hence a...
متن کاملMicrostructural Evolution of X45CrNiW189 Valve Steel During Hot Deformation
The hot compression tests were carried on X45CrNiW189 valve steel (X45) in the temperature range of 1000– 1200 °C and the strain rate range of 0.004 – 0.5 s-1 in order to study the high temperature softening behavior of this steel. For the exact prediction of flow stress, the effective stress-effective strain curves were obtained from experiments under various conditions. On the basis of experi...
متن کاملMicrostructural evolution of 304 austenitic stainless steel in friction stir welding process
Friction stir welding (FSW) was conducted on AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel plate with 2 mm thickness. The FSW was performed at a welding and rotational speeds of 50 mm/min and 400 rpm, respectively. Microstructure observations by the optical microscopy showed that a severe grain refinement occurred in the stir zone (SZ). Electron backscattered diffraction analysis (EBSD) results indicated...

متن کاملA New Perspective on Texture Evolution
Modeling and analysis of texture evolution in polycrystalline materials is a major challenge in materials science. It requires understanding grain boundary or interface evolution at the network level, where topological reconfigurations (critical events) play an important role. In this paper, we investigate grain boundary evolution in a simplified one-dimensional system designed specifically to ...
